WELCOME TO

St Mary the Virgin Mortlake

Open doors, open hearts, open minds

Welcome

Welcome to St Mary’s, the historic parish church of Mortlake. We aim to be a family friendly and inclusive church welcoming everyone and providing a space in which people can explore faith and ask questions.

We're open

St Mary’s is open for private prayer or quiet reflection from 8.30am to 4.00pm from Monday to Thursday each week.

Mission Action Plan

In common with other churches in the Diocese of Southwark, have a Mission Action Plan which is reviewed regularly. Click below to read ours.

Inclusion

As a church we are committed to inclusion and social justice and many of our members are active in local community groups. We are working to reduce our carbon footprint and have recently obtained our ECO Church Bronze award.

Our Services

Join us on Sundays where we hold a regular sung Eucharist. Each month we also hold a less formal service aimed at children and once a month there is also a service for families with children who have sporty commitments in the morning.

Our Team

The church is run by Parish Rector Dr Ann Nickson who is ably assisted by our Deacon the Rev’d Matthew Watts. Both Ann and Matthew are supported by the churchwardens Anita Larsen, Ginny Waterkeyn and Sarah Coggins and the practical day to day matters are dealt with our Parish Administrator Cheri Crump.

He was born in Wiltshire and grew up in North Yorkshire, where he was a chorister at Ripon Cathedral. Music has always played a large part in his life, leading to a pre-ordination career as a freelance and Army musician playing tuba, trombone, euphonium, and also singing. Other interests include fiction, food, theatre, board games, rugby, and being a slightly reluctant runner.
